Developed by 37Games and released in March 2026, Last Asylum: Plague is a post-apocalyptic shelter management game. Within six months, it earned a 4.8 iOS rating from more than 36,000 reviews.

Many players follow tier lists but still struggle in battle. Most rankings ignore role overlap and resource priority—two factors that directly affect team performance.

This guide ranks every hero by role and strength, then recommends practical teams for Rat Swarm Defense, Territory Reclamation, Alliance Expedition, and other modes.

Do not want to rely on gacha luck to pull UR heroes such as Arthur and Marlena? Last Asylum: Plague top-ups on GamsGo cost about 6% less than the official price, can arrive in as little as one hour, and include DealShield transaction protection.

Last Asylum: Plague Hero Tier List Overview

This tier list is not based on skill-panel numbers alone. Heroes are scored across three dimensions: their maximum potential in endgame teams, their versatility across PvE, PvP, Alliance Expedition, and other modes, and the return they deliver on the resources required to build them.

Every hero is shaped by two classification systems. Rarity (UR/SSR/SR) determines how difficult a hero is to obtain, while class and role determine what they do—each of the three classes, Warrior, Ranger, and Warlock, is further divided into Tank, Carry, and Support. Together, these factors determine the rankings below.

TierHeroes
SArthur, Marlena, Shadow, Daskal, Harper, Cynthia, Red Lady
A+Brian, Bell, Nicole, Annie, Louis, Bella, Grenwald, Griffith
AZoya, Jester, Billy, Stellar, Bestar, Claire, Hastar
B+Lucius, Kesso, Celia, Sivir
BAsh
CDurant, Robin, William, Kafa

Shadow and Cynthia can only be obtained through paid purchases, so they are not included in these rankings. Their roles are briefly covered at the end of the tier list.

Beyond Last Asylum: Plague, we have also put together tier lists for the games below. If any catch your interest, take a look to progress faster and get more from your time in the game.

S Tier Heroes

All three heroes in this tier are UR units and should be the first core picks you lock in for an endgame team. Their skill strength and versatility are clearly ahead of A+ heroes and below.

Arthur

Arthur in Last Asylum: Plague

Tank (Warrior) | ATK 15,971|HP 2,236,301|DEF 15,971|CMD 350

Arthur is one of the few heroes who can provide both shields and team-wide damage reduction. As a UR Warrior Tank, he can be obtained from standard summons, Alliance Store exchanges, and event rewards. He is also among the easiest UR heroes to pull when the tower first opens, making him a core tank that even new accounts can target early.

His Tenacious Will passive reduces damage taken by the team's tanks, while his Solid as a Rock active skill provides a shield. Together, they give Arthur exceptional mitigation in high-pressure content such as the later stages of Rat Swarm Defense and Territory Reclamation, making him the anchor of the team's survivability.

Arthur earns his S-tier position because both his damage reduction and shields help the entire team rather than just keeping him alive. He delivers full value in Rat Swarm Defense, Territory Reclamation, and Alliance Expedition, giving him a level of versatility that other tanks cannot match.

Marlena

Marlena in Last Asylum: Plague

Marlena is a Warrior-class energy damage carry whose ultimate strikes multiple random targets, making her well suited to sustained AoE pressure. She is mainly obtained through standard summons, although some players use low-cost bundles to unlock her sooner.

Her ultimate deals energy damage to multiple enemies, her passive further amplifies her own energy damage, and her active skill adds another burst of AoE damage. Together, these three skills make her highly efficient at both clearing mobs and focusing down priority targets.

Marlena's energy damage perfectly complements Arthur's physical damage reduction, helping a team handle stages with different damage types. She works in Rat Swarm Defense, Territory Reclamation, and Alliance Expedition, and her acquisition requirements are not excessively high, making her a clear S-tier hero.

Brian

Brian in Last Asylum: Plague

Brian is the newest S-tier hero in the current version. Released in July 2026, he is a UR Warlock Tank. Although he shares S tier with Arthur, the two mitigate damage in completely different ways.

While enraged, Brian reflects 147% of the damage he takes. His ultimate also grants the entire team about 19% damage reduction, while his passive further reduces his own incoming damage by 22%. Combining reflection with mitigation makes him extremely sturdy.

Arthur survives by absorbing damage with shields, while Brian stays alive by reflecting it, so their mechanics complement rather than duplicate each other. If you want to anchor two tank lines in the same lineup, pairing Arthur with Brian is a viable option.

A+ Tier Heroes

All three heroes in this tier are SSR units. They are much easier to pull than UR heroes, yet their skill strength and team compatibility already put them close to S-tier performance, making them high-value choices when resources are limited.

Bella

Bella in Last Asylum: Plague

Bella is an SSR Tank widely regarded as the best substitute for Arthur. Her fragments can be exchanged in the Alliance Store, so she does not depend on summoning luck and is the safest tank investment for F2P players.

Her skills reduce the monster damage she takes while also lowering enemy ATK. This two-way effect makes her damage mitigation especially strong in PvE.

Pairing her with Arthur allows their mitigation effects to stack. A fully built Bella can be more useful than an underdeveloped Arthur, making her the most reliable bridge until you obtain him.

Grenwald

Grenwald in Last Asylum: Plague

Grenwald is an SSR Warlock carry with strong single-target and AoE soul magic damage, but his low defense makes him a classic glass cannon.

His passive specifically increases damage dealt to monsters, giving him a clear advantage when fighting bosses and clearing waves in PvE.

Low defense is his critical weakness, so he needs a tank such as Arthur or Bella in the front row to protect him. Once covered, he can crush bosses and monster waves with his damage, but that dependence on protection is also why he falls short of S tier.

Griffith

Griffith in Last Asylum: Plague

Griffith is an SSR Ranger Tank whose signature Serpent Aura reduces monster damage taken by the entire team while preserving solid single-target burst damage.

This aura is highly valuable in PvE content such as Rat Swarm Defense, Territory Reclamation, and the Rat King, making Griffith an ideal off-tank behind Arthur.

Because the aura mainly counters monster damage, it loses some of its impact in pure PvP. This specialization is why Griffith remains in A+ rather than S tier.

A Tier Heroes

The four heroes in this tier cover three different roles—Support, Carry, and Tank. They are strong enough to perform well but less universally useful than the two tiers above, so they are best selected for a specific game mode or an open slot in your lineup.

Stellar

Stellar in Last Asylum: Plague

Stellar is an SSR Warlock Support and the only support hero on the current list with a healing ability. When she dies, her passive heals the ally with the lowest HP, while her ultimate grants the entire team a stacking damage bonus against monsters.

This last-chance healing mechanic is extremely valuable in extended battles such as the Rat King, where surviving the final waves can come down to that single heal. Bringing Stellar to Rat Swarm Defense noticeably improves the team's margin for error.

Bestar

Bestar in Last Asylum: Plague

Bestar is an SSR Ranger carry who specializes in Bleed and damage over time, with an additional ghost-summoning mechanic that supports her sustained-damage playstyle.

In drawn-out modes such as Territory Reclamation, her damage over time has room to build and delivers more consistent value than burst-focused heroes. There is no need to invest in her before your core team is complete; she is a useful enhancement rather than a priority.

Claire

Claire in Last Asylum: Plague

Claire is an SSR Warrior carry who combines single-target burst damage with a team buff. The buff scales with the three allies who have the highest ATK, so the mechanic becomes increasingly valuable in the late game.

She also has a wide-area sword-wave skill that works against both bosses and monster waves. The game offers a progression path that upgrades her from SSR to UR while preserving all previous investment in levels, equipment, and stars, making her worth building for the long term.

Hastar

Hastar in Last Asylum: Plague

Hastar is an SSR Warlock Tank whose kit leans toward control and burst damage rather than the straightforward mitigation of a traditional tank.

Control skills like his are clearly more valuable in PvP than PvE. Once the opposing lineup is crowd-controlled, your carries can deal damage much more freely, so Hastar fits better in a PvP team than as your primary PvE tank.

B+ Tier Heroes

These four heroes are all SSR Warriors. They can hold their own early on, but their skills lack room to scale into the late game. Replace them as soon as you obtain a higher-tier hero for the same position.

Lucius

Lucius in Last Asylum: Plague

Lucius is a Warrior Tank whose passive reduces damage taken from monsters, making him capable of holding the front row in the early game.

However, he lacks a scalable mechanic such as shields or team buffs. Replace him immediately after obtaining Arthur or Bella, and avoid spending rare upgrade materials on him.

Kesso

Kesso in Last Asylum: Plague

Kesso is a Warrior carry with average damage and no distinctive skill mechanic or team buff.

He is suitable for filling an empty slot, but once you pull Grenwald, Claire, or Bestar, you can move him straight to the bench.

Celia

Celia in Last Asylum: Plague

Celia is a Warrior Support with basic healing, which can be useful in an emergency early on.

Her healing and team buffs are both weaker than Stellar's, however, so use her only during the first few hours and replace her once you obtain Stellar.

Sivir

Sivir in Last Asylum: Plague

Sivir is a Warrior carry with respectable stats but no damage-scaling or team-synergy mechanic, making her purely a transitional hero.

Avoid upgrading her beyond 3 stars. If you already have Claire or Grenwald, you can skip her entirely.

B Tier Heroes

Ash is the only B-tier hero and is widely considered the weakest SSR carry. Sitting between B+ and C tiers, she is a temporary option that becomes unnecessary as soon as you have another SSR.

Ash

Ash in Last Asylum: Plague

Ash is a Ranger carry whose ultimate deals single-target physical burst damage, but with equal investment, her damage is clearly lower than that of SSR carries such as Grenwald and Claire.

She can fill out your team during the first few days, but she will usually be replaced as soon as you pull another SSR carry. Do not allocate rare upgrade resources to her.

C Tier Heroes (and Premium Heroes Not Ranked)

C tier contains four SR heroes, the lowest rarity in the game, all of whom serve purely as early-game placeholders.

Durant, Robin, and William are similar in strength. They can hold the front row or deal damage early on, but should be replaced as soon as you obtain any SSR hero and are not worth investing upgrade materials in.

Kafa has an even narrower use case than the other three and is mainly used for specific early-game missions. Her priority in everyday teams is lower than that of Durant and the others.

Shadow and Cynthia are UR heroes obtained mainly through paid bundles rather than the standard summon pool. Most authoritative tier lists exclude them from the official rankings, so this guide does not assign them a tier either. In short, Shadow is a Tank who reduces energy damage, while Cynthia is an AoE Ranger carry.

How to Build the Best Team in Last Asylum: Plague

Combat in Last Asylum: Plague is semi-idle: heroes attack automatically, but active skills must be triggered manually once their energy bars are full. Timing and synergy between characters matter more than simply stacking ATK.

Each battle uses five heroes. Tanks stand in the front row to absorb damage, while carries and supports operate from the back row. The standard setup is two Tanks, two Carries, and one Support—the core template shared by major modes such as Rat Swarm Defense, Territory Reclamation, and Alliance Expedition.

Fully building one hero for a position is more practical than collecting several underdeveloped S-tier heroes. This returns to the issue raised earlier: a high tier does not automatically make a strong team, and the depth of your investment often matters more than rarity itself.

Below is a beginner-friendly F2P starting lineup you can copy directly, followed by specialized teams for Rat Swarm Defense, Territory Reclamation, and Alliance Expedition, so you can choose one that matches your progress.

Best F2P Starter Team for Early Game

New accounts do not need to worry about summoning luck at the beginning. Every position in the lineup below can be filled with minimal investment, and the team follows the standard two Tanks, two Carries, and one Support setup.

PositionHeroHow to ObtainWhy This Hero
Tank①ArthurStandard summons / Alliance StoreTeam-wide damage reduction; the core of your defense
Tank②BellaFragment exchange in the Alliance StoreFree substitute when Arthur is unavailable
Carry①ClaireStandard summonsTeam buff plus single-target burst damage
Carry②MarlenaStandard summons / low-cost bundlesEfficient AoE wave clearing
SupportCeliaFree at the start of the gameFills the open Support position

If you cannot fill one of these positions yet, Lucius, Sivir, Harper, or Bestar can serve as temporary substitutes until you pull the target hero.

Best Team Compositions by Game Mode

The starter team can handle everyday progression, but Rat Swarm Defense, Territory Reclamation, and Alliance Expedition have different damage types and battle tempos. You will need to adjust your lineup for each mode to get the best results.

Rat Swarm Defense

Rat Swarm Defense is the game's core PvE tower-defense mode. You must protect your shelter from wave after wave of infected rats before ultimately defeating the high-HP Rat King boss.

The challenge is surviving dozens of early waves while still having enough burst damage when the Rat King appears. The ideal approach is therefore two Tanks, two Carries, and one healing Support.

PositionHeroWhy This Hero
Tank①ArthurProvides the foundation of team-wide damage reduction
Tank②GriffithSerpent Aura directly counters monster damage
Carry①MarlenaClears mobs with AoE damage
Carry②GrenwaldDelivers maximum damage once protected by the tanks
SupportStellarHer on-death heal helps the team survive the final waves

This lineup requires more investment than the F2P starter team. Build Arthur and your main carry properly before fielding it.

Territory Reclamation

Territory Reclamation is a tactical mode with no defensive towers to support you. Your five heroes must reclaim plague-ravaged ruins on their own while facing a wider variety of enemies, including control-focused monsters that specifically suppress your carries.

Without help from towers, individual battles last longer than in Rat Swarm Defense. Your lineup therefore needs enough self-sustain to survive an entire fight instead of simply stacking burst damage.

PositionHeroWhy This Hero
Tank①ArthurProvides the foundation of team-wide damage reduction
Tank②GriffithAura reduces monster damage while he contributes damage
Carry①MarlenaHigh burst damage removes priority threats
Carry②BestarBleed damage snowballs as the battle continues
SupportStellarHer on-death heal extends the team's staying power

This lineup is better suited to prolonged battles than the Rat Swarm Defense team. Bestar's Bleed damage gradually ramps up as a fight drags on, making it ideal for the sustained attrition of Territory Reclamation.

Alliance Expedition / PvP

Alliance Expedition is a multi-stage PvE progression mode played alongside your allies, with the difficulty increasing from one stage to the next. PvP, meanwhile, pits you against other players. In both cases, your opponents are no longer just ordinary monsters.

This means mechanics designed specifically to counter monsters, such as Griffith's aura and Bestar's Bleed, lose value. Crowd control and damage reduction that works against any damage type become more important instead.

PositionHeroWhy This Hero
Tank①ArthurProvides the foundation of physical damage reduction
Tank②BrianDamage reflection covers the team's non-physical weakness
CarryMarlenaStrong PvP burst damage
ControlHastarControl is more valuable in PvP than PvE
SupportStellarHer on-death heal extends the team's staying power

Arthur's damage reduction only works against physical damage, while Brian's reflection helps cover the team's weakness to non-physical attacks. Hastar's control also carries far more weight in these two modes than in standard PvE.

Hero Investment Priority: Who to Upgrade First

This is the most important section of the guide: nothing matters more than concentrating your resources. A fully built A-tier hero will outperform an underdeveloped S-tier hero in every mode. Spreading resources too thin is one of the easiest mistakes for new players to make.

Prioritize upgrades by role:

  1. Build your main Tank first—prioritize Arthur, or use Bella if you cannot develop him yet, and max out both stars and skills
  2. Build your main Carry next—prioritize Marlena, followed by Grenwald, and take that hero to the maximum level as well
  3. Leave Supports and flex picks until last, after the first two roles are fully developed

Keep the size of your roster under control as well. Building five to seven core heroes is enough—five starters for daily content and most modes, plus two flexible substitutes for specific situations. Investing beyond that number is largely a waste of resources.

FAQ

Does the Tier List Change Between PvE and PvP?

Yes. Griffith's aura specifically counters monster damage, so its value drops sharply in pure PvP. Hastar's control skills, by contrast, carry more weight in PvP than PvE. Arthur's damage reduction only works against physical damage, so it is less effective against energy or magic carries in PvP. A hero's ranking can change with the game mode.

How Do I Get UR Heroes as a Free-to-play Player?

UR heroes can be obtained through standard summons, Alliance Store fragment exchanges, and event rewards, so you do not need to pay. The Alliance Store is the most reliable F2P route because it does not depend on summoning luck, although accumulating enough fragments takes time.

Is It Better to Build one Strong Hero or Several Average Ones?

Building one strong hero offers better value. A fully built A-tier hero performs better in actual battles than an underdeveloped S-tier hero. This is the resource-concentration principle emphasized throughout the guide: spreading your investment too widely only leaves every position underpowered.
